Eram Garden | Brilliant symbol of Iranian architecture
Shiraz is known for its beautiful gardens, and one of the most beautiful and special ones is Eram Garden. The precise date of its initial construction is not known and according to a tradition, its construction belongs to the Seljuk era and its building was improved during Zandieh era.Currently, it is available to Shiraz University as a botanical garden, and many plants from outmost areas of the world have been planted in this garden. Today, this garden has become an exhibition of flowers and plants due to its abundance of plant diversity.
The towering cypress (cedar) trees of the garden are very well-known, and the Shiraz Sarvanaz tree, with a height of more than 40 meters, is world-famous.A variety of roses are planted in the garden that is unique in Iran and the surrounding countries in terms of diversity and multiplicity.
This brilliant garden is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The beautiful mansion is located in the center of the Eram Garden, and there is a pond in front of the mansion which is built by using 18 slats and fountains which you can see the reflection of this charming environment. Architects erase the garden’s slope by using stairs.
In the designing of this mansion, attractive decorations such as molding, engraving, painting, carving, tiling, inlaid work, and mirror work have been used, which are considered as masterpieces of that time.
The mansion is built on three floors in the Qajar style.
• First floor: This floor, known as the pond room (hall), is tiled and is on the ground floor. There is also a carved stone column in the center of the first floor.
• Second floor: includes various sections such as porch, hall, corridors and stone pillars, and the iron windows on this floor are from the original buildings that still remain.
• Third floor: It consists of a very large hall with very beautiful and artistic paintings on the roof, which is called Marjouk paintings.
One of the most exciting parts of this valuable mansion is the crypt, which is located on the ground floor of the building, and water flows through it.
Stone and valuable inscriptions of Eram Garden
On the two arches on sides of the garden gate, there is an inscription with the verses of the Qur’an, and on the six pillars of the main mansion, there are inscriptions of the famous poems. Also, other inscriptions can be seen on the mansion walls and columns of the porch.
