Badab-e Surt | Terraced Colorful Springs
About 95 km away from Sari to the south, 1840 m above the sea level, you will be surprised by a natural sight of stepped mineral springs.
There are two springs, one with salty water which is said to be medically beneficial and the other with sour orange water. There are red and yellow pools that have made a natural staircase and you can enjoy a spectrum of colors made by deposition of iron.
This spring is Iran’s second natural heritage after Damavand and the second Salt water spring in the world after Pamukkale in Turkey. Getting to it takes a little effort since it’s a hiking area but this natural wonder totally worth the effort, you can also use local rides if you’re not much fond of hiking. It’s highly recommended to use a guide for this special place but before visiting the area keep in mind that even though you’ll be mesmerized by the beautiful shining colors and steps, you shouldn’t get inside the water just to take photos! It’s like an art masterpiece by geological activities and it takes about 300 years just for one centimeter of the terraces to be made! So give the chance of visiting this area to the posterity.
