Alisadr Cave | The world’s biggest water cave
Alisadr Cave is located in northwest of Hamedan, in Kaboudarahang province in a village by this name. This splendid natural phenomenon was listed in the UNESCO’s World Heritage List in 2008, as the longest and the biggest water cave in the world.
The history of Alisadr cave
It has a history of 190 million years that dates back to Jurassic era (second geological period) and was first discovered by a group of mountaineers in 1963. So far only about 14 kilometers of the cave is discovered, and other parts are undiscovered due to the difficulty of the path.
Unique characteristics of Alisadr cave
This beautiful cave is located at a height of about 2100 meters above the sea level and has numerous winding corridors, waterways and a great lake inside. Lake’s source is from the underground water and the water is always leaking from the walls and ceiling. Using a boat for visiting cave’s different parts is necessary and this makes it the world’s largest canoeing cave.
As you enter the cave, you’ll notice that inner temperature is lower than outside, which makes it so pleasant. In some parts of the cave, the ceiling is 10 meters high above the water level.
The water in the cave is so clear and clean but is non-potable, because it has so many minerals and lime in it and no animals can live in it. While visiting Alisadr Cave, you’ll see many eye-catching Stalagmites and Stalactites that each one has a marvelous and unique shape. Some of them are so popular that have their own names such as: The square columns, the dragon’s claw, the stone waterfall, the eagle’s claw, the chandelier hall and the Holy name of Allah.
One of the most interesting points about this cave is that it is totally a natural cave and no human involvement is seen in its structure. According to geology studies, Alisadr Cave is active and still changing.
